Who says that only fruits like citrus fruit and berries have the ability to help you lose weight? Some of us aren’t still aware that almonds can also help in your journey to weight loss. Yes, the almond, famous during the holiday season, is what I am referring to. Let us take a look why almonds are great for weight loss.
A study done by the International Journal of Obesity proves that a diet with almonds versus a diet without the nuts is more effective in losing more weight when given to obese people to test. It was also proven in the study that all calories are equal. Almonds are high in monounsaturated fat when compared to other nuts which are high in fat. Monounsaturated fats mean that almonds are not totally absorbed by the body. Fiber, a component of almonds which increases metabolism, is another reason why almonds are recommended in the diet of a weight watcher. These fibers are accompanied by the protein content and good fat content which makes it really complete to be in a healthy diet.
As mentioned above, aside from weight loss abilities of almonds, health benefits are also achieved when consuming almonds. They are high in protein and don’t contain cholesterol. Foods without the cholesterol content are good for the heart since it increase the production of LDL or the good cholesterol. Heart diseases are then avoided with eating almonds. Apart from its no-cholesterol property, magnesium is present in almonds, a mineral which strengthens the heart and the muscles. Almonds do contain Vitamin E and several antioxidants which are good for the skin and hair. It also contains phosphorous which is good for the teeth and bones.
So how many almonds should I consume a day for weight loss to be effective? There was an experiment done by the US City of Hope National Medical Center saying that those who ate seventy almonds daily had a significant drop of about 18 percent of their body weight. Of course, eating almond should be accompanied with a low fat diet. Furthermore, waist circumference of almond dieters decrease by about 14 percent compared to just 9 percent decrease with non almond dieters.
If you want to use almonds for a snack, try to consume fifteen to twenty whole almonds. It should be unroasted, dry roasted (without adding oil) or even raw. For meal replacement purposes, try eating 50 almonds every time you don’t want to eat your meal.
What more could you ask for? Exercise is good to partner with a diet containing almonds and you can then achieve the body that is healthy and fit. Almonds are easy to carry and have a long storage time so it is very convenient for a person to engage in an almond diet. You can keep it in your bag and munch it out during snacks. It can even replace your breakfast but not all the time since breakfast is the most important meal of the day that should not be missed. Anyway, if you skipped your breakfast, the nutrients contained in almonds are enough to keep your energy in a considerable level.
Just don’t forget that in any diet, there are drawbacks and almond diet alone can not give you favorable result. Instead, try to do some physical activities and your losing weight will be effective.
